Job Description

The Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining EHS programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role focuses on promoting a culture of safety and environmental responsibility across all operations and is the primary point of contact for all project safety efforts.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Leads the development and implementation of comprehensive EHS policies, procedures, and programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Conducts in-depth EHS audits and inspections, exercising independent judgment to assess compliance with regulations and internal standards.
  • Investigates incidents and near-misses, utilizing analytical skills to formulate and implement corrective actions that mitigate future risks.
  • Designs and delivers advanced EHS training and educational programs for employees and contractors, fostering a culture of safety and compliance.
  • Facilitates and leads safety meetings, promoting proactive discussions on EHS matters and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitors and analyzes EHS performance metrics, preparing detailed reports for senior management to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Collaborates with regulatory agencies, representing the organization during inspections and audits, and ensuring adherence to all applicable regulations.
  • Contributes to emergency response planning and execution of drills, enhancing organizational preparedness for potential incidents.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of EHS regulations and industry best practices, integrating this knowledge into organizational strategies.
  • Exhibits strong safety leadership, influencing organizational culture and promoting a commitment to safety at all levels.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of federal, state and local EHS regulations including OSHA, EPA, DOT and USCG regulations.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work independently with a limited degree of direct oversight.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to ensuring compliance and operational excellence.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EHS management software.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or industrial technology or equivalent knowledge demonstrated by work experience
  • 3 years of experience in EHS roles, preferably in the energy sector
  • 3 years of safety training experience
  • 1 year experience interacting with one of the following agencies: RRC, OSHA, and PHMSA

Certifications:

  • Certification in EHS (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) preferred

Physical Demands and Hazard for Field Employees:

This position may require occasional travel to remote sites, potential exposure to flammable material, adherence to safety protocols, compliance with operating regulations, and will require rigorous physical demands.
